People already try to use apps like Yik Yak and Tinder to meet new people, but these apps have friction. People troll because they are anonymous on Yik Yak, and judge based on appearance with Tinder.
I just want someone to eat a taco with. With Impulse, I can now find that someone.
I know how difficult it is to do things with people in a new environment. When I moved to San Francisco I didn’t know anyone. You get very lonely when you’re in that situation. That’s when the idea of Impulse came about. I didn’t want to create something that’s exclusive for dating. I mean, I just wanted to have fun with other people, you know, watch a movie, get something to eat, or simply hangout. There’s really no disappointments with an app like that. Just other people nearby to have fun with, right now. That’s Impulse.
I’m focused on making Impulse the ultimate go-to when you want to do an activity with your friends or people nearby. As a freshman at Cal, it can be tough making friends or meeting up with friends who you don’t have good connections with. Have you ever wanted to do an activity but didn’t have anyone to do it with? I’ve sure been in that situation. Sure you can try to meet with people on other platforms, but those platforms are awkward because they aren’t made for it.
